The Newark Star-Ledger announced today that ERod is one of the First Team All-State Defensive Backs. So, you'd imagine he's an "all-stater". But, the Associated Press ALSO puts out an All-State team, which reports say should come out on Sunday. ERod's football coach told us last week "Evan made all-state." We suspected he meant the AP All-State team and reported as such. And, he should be on that team too.
Sports awards and commendations can be confusing to say the least. For instance, ERod won the Hudson County Defensive Player of the Year last season, but didn't win Defensive Back of the Year, the position he played.
So, in review, today's announcement was an honor from The Newark Star-Ledger. It's a tremendous honor but players would probably say the AP All-State team is what is recognized country-wide as the one you really want to be on.
