With each new week and each new Rutgers victory (currently they are 7-0), the new-found fans of RU are starting to vocally push Head Coach Schiano to deliver as many in-state High School stars as possible to the 2007 team roster. The recent commit by Union City, NJ (Union Hill High School) star linebacker Manny Abreu was a huge pickup for this fledging program.One of the states best big HS stars is ERod, the top rated Defensive Back in the state. In today's article in the Newark Star Ledger titled "Jersey's top recruits see Knights in positive light " the following reference to ERod is included...
"Rutgers is also a favorite of North Bergen safety Evan Rodriguez and Paulsboro linebacker Alex Silvestro, and the Scarlet Knights will go head-to-head with No. 4 West Virginia, one of three undefeated Big East teams, in the battle for both."
When the recruiting process really started to take off in 2005, ERod almost laughed off the possibility he would ever consider Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. And now, with Schiano and company ranked #16 Nationally, the idea of staying home to star is not such a bad idea. ERod is currently telling reporters his top three are West Virginia, PITT...and Rutgers!
