A Wake-Up Call....

At 7:30 AM this morning Erod and I welcomed Maryland Defensive Line Coach Dave Solazzo to NBHS for a 25 minute meeting. Mr. Solazzo told us about 5 weeks ago Maryland was "real close" to making an offer - an offer that still hasn't arrived. Coach had asked that Erod pay a visit to the team's football camp in June....On the campus we visited in early April. Although Erod was first against the idea, he has since agreed to go.

As I mentioned a few posts before, Erod will cut the BC camp short in order to spend time at Maryland. Coach said we needn't stay two days, that "we can get a real sense of what we have here" after just one day, and either 2 or 3 of the practices (on June 22nd). So we'll keep our visit there to just one day.

I pressed Coach about why the offer never came since Erod is not that forward yet...and basically it is what we expected, a grades issue. They want to see how he does in the final quarter of the year before committing one of their scholarship offers. That makes Erod disappointed, no doubt, yet that is what we're dealing with, with a number of schools. And, I will mention, whenever a new coach arrives at NBHS and says "don't worry, you'll get in" - I start to really worry. We don't need Erod attending a school where they aren't real concerned about his academics.

VISITING NOTES: Two days ago, the University of Florida's Steve Addazio visited Erod at school to gauge his interest in the SEC school - to which Erod replied, "very high!" I know he would like to make at least a couple of his official visits down to F-L-A come the 2006 season.
