COMEBACK KIDS!
On a night where the THREE SENIORS got a second chance at saying goodbye to their home court (courtesy of the Bruins' upset victory at Hackensack on Wednesday) - they made the most of the opportunity. Trailing by eight points heading into the final quarter, Kenny DeDios starting dropping threes...Xavier Silva got his move to the hole to connect, and ERod sent the game-tying three-point attempt back from whence it came. At the final buzzer the North Bergen Bruins had advanced as far as they have gone since the 1976-77 season with a 79-74 comeback win over Paterson Eastside High School. It was the second time they ousted Eastside from the State Playoffs in three years, as they sent them packing in the 2004-05 season with a 92-82 victory over them, also at the Bruins' gym, on March 4, 2005.
The win would not have been possible without the inspired play of Junior point guard Jorge Guajardo, who poured in 22 points and kept the struggling Bruins in the game in the first half. His string of hoops, including three three-point shots and a game total of nine free throws, were the reason the Bruins had a chance to steal this game in the 4th quarter!
The win propels the Bruins to Monday Night's (March 5) North 1 Group 4 Sectional Final game at Wayne Valley High School where they will take on a team they met in a pre-season scrimmage, Passaic County Tech.
For the Bruins to be successful they will more than likely need another big effort from the Three Seniors - who said goodbye to their Bruins gym with a memorable victory.
